报告摘要: Lung diseases represent a large societal and economic burden and have one of the highest morbidities and mortalities worldwide. Despite decades of intensive research, the pathophysiology of a number of pulmonary diseases is still not entirely understood and lung diseases are often diagnosed at an already progressed state at which they are not reversible. In the preclinical field, small-animal imaging is nowadays routinely used for studying disease progression, but the high structural and hierarchical complexity of the lung still poses great challenges for deciphering various pulmonary pathologies, in particular at the scale of micrometers. Synchrotron-based pulmonary imaging has the potential to fill this gap due to its highly brilliant X-rays, but the respective acquisition protocols still need to be refined for the specific biomedical applications. In the present talk, I will summarize our recent activities in pulmonary research, in particular by outlining the ongoing upgrade of the Swiss Light Source (SLS) toward a 4th-generation (diffraction-limited) synchrotron source. The potentials, arising with the construction of the new I-TOMCAT undulator beamline will be discussed in view of latest activities on beamline design, specification, and instrumentation development. I will then present two projects in the field of microscopic pulmonary pathophysiology, both that aim at pushing the temporal and spatial resolutions at TOMCAT 2.0 by data-driven means. Another goal for TOMCAT 2.0 will be to facilitate real-time data processing as part of a user’s experiment lifecycle. I will give an overview on our ongoing activities as well as outline our current strategy on how to achieve this. 报告人简介: Dr. Goran Lovric graduated in Technical Physics from Graz University of Technology, Austria, obtaining both his BSc and MSc degrees at the Institute of Theoretical and Computational Physics. This included a half-year research visit at the Hubei University (Wuhan, China). In his PhD thesis, which he defended in 2015 at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET, ETH Zurich, Switzerland), he demonstrated the worldwide first in vivo tomographic microscopy study of lungs. The methodology was followed up by several collaborative projects with biological and medical partners during his postdoctoral research (2016-2019) that was conducted at the Center for Biomedical Imaging (CIBM, EPFL) and the Institute of Anatomy (University of Bern). After a short “intermezzo” in IT industry, where he specialized in various IT topics centered around data engineering, he has joined the TOMCAT beamline in September 2021 as a tenure-track Beamline Scientist, where he is now heading the data-driven imaging activities of the group. “论坛”主请人联系方式: 王振天:wangzhentian@tsinghua.edu.cn
