本研究提供了对印度妇女老年虐待和忽视的综合评述，强调过去 15 年中虐待案件显著增加及其对身心健康的影响。研究探讨了性别规范和社会接受度如何促成这些妇女所经历的暴力，强调了需要政策变革以改善这一脆弱人群的健康和老龄化过程。通过在 PubMed、EMBASE、SCOPUS、Web of Science 和 Cochrane Library 等数据库中的全面搜索，研究确定了从 2010 年到 2023 年的 36 篇文章，关注老龄化、虐待、忽视以及印度受害老年妇女在获取社区支持和卫生服务方面的障碍。研究发现虐待现象普遍存在，特别是在 60 岁以上的妇女中，严重影响她们的身心健康，这些影响受到财富、教育、经济和健康因素的影响。研究强调了这一问题文献的有限性，并呼吁实施针对性的干预措施和保护政策，以保护老年人并解决虐待和忽视所带来的身心后果。这项研究已入围2023年美国公共卫生协会（APHA）安泰奖决赛名单。

Abstract:

This study offers an integrated review of elder abuse and neglect among women in India, highlighting a significant increase in abuse cases over the past 15 years and its implications on their physical and mental health. It examines how gender norms and social acceptance contribute to the violence experienced by these women, emphasizing the need for policy changes to improve health and aging processes for this vulnerable population. Utilizing a comprehensive search across databases like PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, the study identifies 36 articles from 2010 to 2023, focusing on aging, abuse, neglect, and barriers to accessing community support and health services for victimized elderly Indian women. The findings reveal a concerning prevalence of abuse, particularly among women aged 60 and above, with significant impacts on their well-being, influenced by factors such as wealth, education, and health. The study underscores the limited literature on this issue and calls for targeted interventions and protective policies to safeguard the elderly and address the physical and emotional consequences of abuse and neglect. This study has been recognized as a Finalist for the 2023 APHA Aetna Award.

Priya Rajagopalan教授，现任宾夕法尼亚大学福克斯领导力国际项目的正教授，她在教育界的成就卓著，对全球公共卫生和经济学领域作出了显著贡献。她的公共卫生研究领域广泛，特别关注印度的老年护理、妇女生殖权利和对印度家庭暴力（IPV）的社会态度问题。她在研究印度老年妇女遭受的虐待和忽视方面尤为突出。此前，Rajagopalan教授在普渡大学克兰纳特管理学院任职，以其在经济学、经济政策和定量方法方面的杰出教学而著称，并获得了多项教学荣誉。她拥有韦恩州立大学的博士学位和宾夕法尼亚大学的公共卫生硕士学位。

Biography:

Priya Rajagopalan, Full Professor of Practice at the Fox Leadership International Program at the University of Pennsylvania, has a distinguished career in education, with significant contributions to global public health and economics. Her research in public health is diverse, covering critical topics like elder care, reproductive rights with a focus on India, and societal attitudes towards Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in India. She is particularly noted for her work on the mistreatment and neglect of older women in India. Before her current role, she served at Purdue University's Krannert School of Management, where she excelled in teaching Economics, Economic Policy, and Quantitative Methods, earning numerous teaching accolades. Rajagopalan earned her Ph.D. from Wayne State University and a Master of Public Health from the University of Pennsylvania.
