Abstract

Transition-metal oxides exhibit a variety of properties including high-temperature superconductivity, giant magneto-resistance and metal-insulator transitions. Recently, fabrications of thin films and related nano-structures of oxide materials have led to further interesting phenomena such as high-temperature ferromagnetism in diluted magnetic semiconductors and metallic behaviors of interfaces between insulators. We apply photoemission and soft x-ray magnetic circular dichroism techniques using synchrotron to investigate the microscopic mechanisms of those interesting phenomena.
