Bio of Prof. Chen:
Prof. Chin Hsin (Fred) Chen obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1971, and had carried out postdoctoral research at Harvard University in the US. In 1973, he joined Eastman Kodak Company to engage in the development of optoelectronic materials and digital imaging technology. He was the co-inventor of the guest-host doped emitters of OLED with his close colleague, Dr. Ching Tang. He was also responsible for the development of many novel optoelectronic materials for which he has been awarded more than 35 US patents. For his contribution to OLED technology, he was awarded a Society for Information Display (SID) Fellow in 2006.
After leaving Kodak Research Laboratories after 25 years of distinguished service, Dr. Chen turned his attention to teaching and the promotion of OLED industries in Taiwan with an appointment of a Chair-professor in National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1999. Now, he also serves as the director of Centre for Advanced Luminescence Materials in Hong Kong Baptist University. His scholarly output, besides many publications, includes a recent book entitled OLED Materials and Devices, written in Chinese for the benefit of a vast and growing community of researchers in Taiwan and Greater China. Besides his educational responsibilities, Prof. Chen has devoted much effort in promoting OLED technology and industries through consulting with venture capital firms, government agencies, and private companies.
