The quantum limit of the light detection, single photon detection, have been the focus of a lot of researcher recently. The avalanche photodiode has the advantage of small size, high reliability, and low power consumption than the traditional photomultiplier tubes. The design, fabrication, and testing of the single photon avalanche photodiodes will be discussed for infrared wavelength and ultraviolet wavelength.
