  简介:
报告摘要: Traffic signal timing optimization usually assumes that the layout of a junction including lane markings is given as exogenous input. Based on the lane markings, traffic engineers usually start with grouping the traffic lanes into traffic streams, irrespective of the traffic conditions, and then signal settings are determined using stage-based or group-based methods. However, in reality, traffic may not distribute in the same pattern as the ideal grouping based solely on the lane markings, especially under an unbalanced flow distribution. Recently, the lane-based optimization method has recently been developed to address this challenge, in which lane markings are represented by binary variables in the optimization framework for the design of signal-controlled junctions. In this seminar, two extensions of the lane-based method for multi-period analysis and area traffic control are presented. For multi-period analysis, we assume traffic demand pattern varies at different times of the day, and the lane-based optimization method can produce a unique set of lane markings with different signal timings for different periods, which helps to provide a robust control to account for different demand patterns at the junction. For area traffic control, we extend the lane-based optimization method to a traffic equilibrium network, in which we formulate a decomposition approach to simultaneously optimize the lane markings and signal settings for the signal-controlled network.
