In this talk, I will discuss the generalized Onsager-relation and its use in deriving hydrodynamic theories for active matter systems. I will then focus on a simple limit to discuss the stability criterion for spontaneous flows, which is generated internally by the activity of the active matter system. This will be followed by a 2-D study on patterns formed by this active matter systems due to the spontaneous flow and shear. Finally, I will present a multiphase model for study cytokinesis and show the 3-D simulation using this complex fluid model.
