ABSTRACT

With the aid of recent progress of computer sciences, we can run extremely large-scale computation of an earthquake, i.e., the generation and propagation of earthquake waves, the responses of all buildings and structures within an urban area, and the human and community action against the earthquake disasters. The data of constructing computer models are stored in latest geographical information system,  and numerical simulation methods that are used in seismology, civil engineering and social sciences are used. This lecture explains the current state of this integrated earthquake simulation, with some examples of the application to some cities in Tokyo.
