报告人简历:

Qinjun Kang is a Staff Scientist in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). He received his Bachelor and PhD degree in Engineering Mechanics from Tsinghua University, China, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. He joined LANL as a Graduate Research Assistant in 2001, was selected as a Director's Postdoctoral Fellow in 2004, and became a member of LANL's Technical Staff in 2005. His current research focuses on theory and numerical modeling of multiphase flow and reactive transport in porous media at the pore-scale, and on multi-scale models bridging different scales. He has coauthored over 50 peer-reviewed articles, mentored 8 postdocs and 6 PhD students, and has been a reviewer for multiple funding agencies and over 30 international journals.

Abstract: Single and multiphase flow in natural and man-made porous media are pervasive in Earth and energy systems. Geologic examples include development of petroleum and geothermal reservoirs, geological storage of carbon dioxide and nuclear wastes, and fate and transport of underground contaminants. A better understanding of these processes is critical to managing improved production of Earth’s energy resources and safe disposal of energy-related wastes, and to improving the efficiency and durability of engineered energy systems. In this talk, I will present our recent work on numerical modeling and simulation of single and multiphase flow in porous media based on the mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann method. Simulation examples include permeability calculation of a Berea sandstone; slip flow in a 2D channel and synthetic medium; as well as two phase flow in several pore networks. It is concluded that the LBM can be a potentially powerful tool to simulate fluid flow in porous media at the pore scale.
