Atoms are widely used in the fundamental research, such as breaking
?of fundamental symmetries, search for variation of fundamental
?constants, search for dark matter, etc. Accurate atomic calculations
?are needed for planing the experiment and interpretation of the
?measurements. Most of atoms have open shells with large number of
?external electrons. We have developed a method which combines
?configuration interaction with perturbation theory making it possible
?to perform the calculations for atoms with any number of external
?electrons. We use the method to study extra clock transitions in Yb
?atom for the benefit of searching for new physics beyond the standard
?model. We also study super heavy elements from Db(Z=105) to Og
Z=118). ?This includes the study of isotope shift needed for the
search of the ?hypothetical stability island.
About the speaker:Dr. V. A. Dzuba graduated from
?Novosibirsk State University (Russia) in 1975. He's got his PhD form
?Institute of Nuclear Physics (Novosibisrk) in 1982 and doctor of
?sience degree from Institute of spectroscopy in Moscow in 1990. Since
?1992 he works as a researcher at the University of New South Wales,
?Sydney Australia. His main scientific interests include atomic
?calculations and thier use for fundamental problems of morden
physics, ?such as atomic clocks, search for new physics beyond the
standard ?model, etc. He has more than 200 publications in leading
physics journals.
