报告人简历:Dr. Ding is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California, Davis. He received the B.S. degree from Nanjing Institute of Technology, M.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto. He received the Ph.D. degree from  Cornell University in 1990. He was assistant and then associate professor from 1990-98 at Auburn University. He was associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Iowa in Iowa City from 1998-2000. He joined UC davis in 2000 where is currently Professor and and Vice-Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  

Dr. Ding is a Fellow of the IEEE for contribution in ``Blind Estimation and Equalization in Communications'' . Dr. Ding is also named a 2004-06 Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. In addition to serving on a number of  technical programs for workshops and conferences. He was associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing from 1994-1997 and again from 2001-2004. He also served as  associate editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters from 2002-2005. He was a member of technical committee on Statistical Signal and Array Processing and  member of technical committee on Signal Processing for Communications (1994-2003).  Prof. Ding is currently a member of the IEEE SPS Technical Committee on Multimedia Signal Processing.  He is a member of the Editorial Board for the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. Dr. Ding was a member of the Organization Committee of ICASSP 2005 in Philadelphia.  He is the Technical Program Chair of the 2006 IEEE Globecom.

Dr. Ding has held visiting positions in Australian National University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,   NASA Lewis Research Center and USAF Wright Laboratory. Prof. Ding has active collaboration with researchers from several countries including China, Australia, Japan, Canada, Korea and Singapore.

 A Novel Concept of Forwardlink Channel Estimation and Precoding
in Wireless Communications based on Decimated Feedback
 报告摘要:Abstract
 Wireless communication systems often encounter various types of
channel conditions that lead to different channel capacities. It is
well known that capacity-approaching performance requires transmitter
knowledge of the forwardlink channel state information (CSI). How
to acquire this important CSI at the transmitter is a major challenge.
Here, we provide a new channel estimation paradigm for duplex
wireless links. We describe a power and bandwidth efficient dual channel
identification scheme based on decimated signal feedback for duplex
wireless communication systems.  Instead of estimating and feeding back
channel parameters, the mobile station returns a portion of its received
data back to the base station for channel identification.  We also
demonstrate the integration of precoded transmission into duplex channel
estimation mechanism based on bent-pipe signal feedback under multipath
channel distortions. We present an effective fractionally-spaced
precoder design based on the base-station transmitter estimation of the
downlink channel.  We focus on feedback of fractionally spaced samples
and demonstrate the significant improvement when the channel estimator
is given access to the precoder filters used by the wireless
transmitters. We extend this new framework to discrete multitone (DMT)
modulation and illustrate the effectiveness of the forward channel
estimation on bitloading in DMT systems.
