In addition to provide beams for fundamental physics research in high energy and nuclear physics, some of the hadron accelerators at BNL also provide beams for many useful application programs over past thirty years.
After a brief introduction of the hadron accelerator complex at BNL, several application programs will be reviewed. These include isotope production at 200 MeV proton linac, NASA Space Radiation Laboratory at the 1.5 GeV Booster using heavy ion beam for biological and material studies required for space travel, and Muon Storage Ring design for the 26 GeV AGS.
Basic accelerator performance parameters and purposes and characteristics of their application programs will be described. Possible upgrade or expansion plans will also be presented. |
