Talk #1:

Abstract:

Survivable backbone network design is fundamental to deploy  National Information Infrastructure (NII).  One of its key  components is spare capacity allocation.  This talk gives a tutorial on the state-of-the-art on spare capacity allocation, then discusses a few of hot topics concerned by  today's Internet backbone service providers, such as Traffic Engineering (TE), Internet Link Dimensioning and Capacity  Planning, Fast Reroute (FRR), Quality of Service (QoS),  DiffServ-Aware TE (DS-TE), etc..

Bio:

Yu Liu received the B.S. degree in information science and technology from Xi'An Jiaotong University, China, in 1993, the M.S. degree in communications and electronic systems from Tsinghua University, China, in 1996, and the  Ph.D. in telecommunications from the University of  Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, in 2001. Currently, he is a senior software engineer at OPNET Technologies, developing  automated network design solutions for government, network vendors, service providers, and enterprises.

Talk #2:

Abstract:

Multipath routing has drawn extensive attention in  mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The typical dense deployment of nodes in MANETs/WSNs makes multipath routing a nature and promising technique to cope with frequent topological changes and unreliable communication services. Research efforts have been made using multipath routing to improve robustness of data delivery, to balance traffic load and power consumption among nodes, to reduce end-to-end delay and the frequency of route discoveries, and to improve network security. In this talk, we will briefly introduce the concept of multipath routing, review the techniques used to construct multipath, identify some applications and examine their performance benefit from multipath routing. We will then present two multipath routing based schemes, SPREAD and H-SPREAD, which combine multipath routing and secret sharing techniques to provide more reliable and more secure end-to-end data delivery services in MANETs and WSNs respectively.

Bio:

Wenjing Lou is an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She obtained her Ph.D degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Florida in 2003. She received the M.A.Sc degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 1998, the M.E degree and the B.E degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 1996 and 1993 respectively. From Dec 1997 to Jul 1999, she worked as a Research Engineer in Network Technology Research Center, Nanyang Technological University. Her current research interests are in the areas of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphases on networksecurity and routing issues.
Dr. Lou has been actively involved with many professional conferences. She has served on many technical program committees, such as IEEE INFOCOM 2005, IEEE GLOBECOM 2005, IEEE WCNC 2005, 2004. She is also a program vice chair for ICESS-2005.
