讲座简介:
Transportation, industry and households emit particulate matters (PM) - nowadays number one harmful air pollutant. The toxicity of PM is magnified when they carry heavy metals (HM), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFR). If pollutants are emitted to the atmosphere, the only option to remove them in controlled manner is through phytoremediation - environmental biotechnology in which plants are employed to capture impurities. Working hypothesis of our study was that there are significant genotypic inter- and intra-species differences in plant usefulness for phytoremediation. In last 4 years, over 60 trees, shrubs and grass species, recommended for urban areas, were evaluated in our laboratory for their abilities of PM accumulation. The result showed that trees and shrubs that belong to Oleaceae family are characterized by greater usefulness for PM phytoremediation.
