主讲人及讲座简介:
Muyin Wang is a research scientist at the Joint Institute for the Study of Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO), University of Washington. She received her B. Sc and M. Sc from Peking University, China, and Ph. D from University of Utah. Muyin’s current research areas include climate change over the northern hemisphere; sea ice predictions; the role of sea ice in the climate system and impacts of changing Arctic sea ice conditions on the climate system as well as on the ecosystem.
Muyin has been intensively involved with assessments of CMIP3 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 3) and CMIP5 models in search for a better way to make predictions of the future climate with the available state-of-art climate models. One way to reduce the model spread is to select models that perform well in their historical simulations when compared with observational data. Most of the CMIP5 models still underestimate the recent sea ice declining trend. When re-calibrated the timing of sea ice loss with observations, the projected summer ice free Arctic by models is around 2030s.
In this presentation, she will mainly focus on observed changes in the Arctic system, large scale circulation pattern and recent changes, projection of future sea ice condition in the Arctic and regional applications of model selection and projections. |
