演讲提纲:A non-mathematical explanation is given of the problems of interpreting quantum mechanics and why they arise.  The Copenhagen Interpretation (also called the standard, traditional, or orthodox interpretation) and the Many-Worlds Interpretations are explained, and their strong and weak points assessed.  It is emphasized that the assumption of philosophical materialism practically forces the acceptance of the Many-Worlds Interpretation with its disturbing implication that every mind exists in an infinite multiplicity of versions in different branches of the wavefunction (unless the postulates of quantum mechanics are false).  A non-materialist interpretation of quantum mechanics is proposed that combines certain features of both the Copenhagen and Many-Worlds ideas, and seems to suffer the defects of neither.
