内容简介:
The zonal mean atmospheric circulation response to global warming will be discussed in contrast to the responses to El Nino and stratospheric ozone recovery. The state of the art climate models project a consistent expansion of the Hadley cell and poleward shift of the midlatitude westerly winds under global warming. This circulation change is accompanied by the poleward shift of the subtropical dry zones and midlatitude storm tracks. Despite the projected El Nino-like tropical circulation change in a warming world, the circulation change under global warming is in the opposite direction to the change associated with El Nino. Meanwhile, the projected Antarctic ozone recovery is expected to shift the Southern Hemisphere wind equatorward against the global warming trend. These circulation changes will be compared and contrasted using both comprehensive climate models and simple models. Some open questions for future research will be discussed. |
