Vladimir V. Chakov graduated from Far East State University (Vladivostok) in 1968. He’s specialized in physical geography and began working as an assistant in the laboratory of telmalogy Khabarovsk Complex Research Institute of Far East Scientific Center of AS USSR (now the Institute of Water and Ecological Problems, FEB RAS) . In 1986 he successfully defended his thesis "Bog-biogeochemical cenoses of Northeast Mid-Lowland and their mapping," and he received a degree in biological sciences in botany. Since 1996 he heads the Laboratory of mire and forests resources of IWEP FEB RAS.

The area of his professional interest includes the studying formation and distribution regularities of wetland ecosystems of the Russian Far East. He has published over 100 scientific papers and patented about 20 scientific developments. Innovative products developed by V. Chakov have repeatedly won high prizes at various international exhibitions.
