  简介:

Dr Derek Martin ProfessorGeotechnical Engineering University of Alberta (环境地质灾害中心主任)

EducationPh.D. in Civil and Geological Engineering, University of Manitoba, 1993 M.Eng. in Civil Engineering, University of Alberta, 1983 B.Sc. in Geology, Memorial University of Nfld, 1972

Dr. Martin has over 25 years of experience in the design and construction of surface and underground rock excavations. He has worked on major civil-engineering projects: Gull Island Hydroelectric Project: Downie Slide; Revelstoke Project; Site C Project; Roger's Pass, and Edmonton’s LRT. From 1987 to 1995 he directed the geomechanics research at AECL's Underground Research Laboratory in south-eastern Manitoba and was senior adviser to the Director of the Canadian Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program. Dr. Martin consults on international projects related to geological disposal of nuclear waste, and tunnels and slopes in rock.

ResearchLaboratory characterization of rocks for deep excavations Site characterization techniques for deep excavations Estimating rock mass strength and deformation properties for tunnels and slopes Modelling progressive failure in rock Effect of support pressure on damage processes in rocks Risk analysis in rock excavations Use of technology (GIS, 3D visualization) in civil engineering projects
