  简介:
Abstract
Airframe noise is a major component of the overall noise emitted by aircraft during landing approach.  Its numerical prediction is particularly challenging due to the hydrodynamic and acoustic interactions with solid surfaces and the wide range of spatial and temporal scales.  The difficulty is further exacerbated for numerical simulations aimed at evaluating the effect of flow control on noise reduction.  In this talk we discuss some computational issues for accurate predictions of airframe noise in the framework of Lighthill's aeroacoustic theory in conjunction with high-fidelity flow simulations, followed by recent investigations in simplified flow configurations relevant to slat noise and landing-gear noise.  These include a "rod-airfoil" configuration to validate numerical solutions against benchmark experimental measurements and study the turbulence interaction noise, and flow over tandem cylinders with active flow control to demonstrate the effectiveness of flow control for noise reduction.  The physical mechanisms for noise generation and noise control are also discussed.

Research Interests
Dr. Wang is interested in applying computational tools to solve engineering fluid dynamics problems and study flow physics. In particular, he employs high-fidelity flow simulation methods including Large-Eddy Simulation (LES), Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), and hybrid RANS/LES approaches to obtain time-accurate solutions for complex turbulent flows. Such solutions are needed in many applications such as flow-generated sound (aeroacoustics and hydroacoustics), flow-induced optical distortions (aero-optics), separated flows, and flow/noise control, which constitute the main emphasis of his current research. He also develops mathematical models and numerical techniques for computational fluid dynamics and aeroacoustics.
