Speaker: Dr. Frank Ackerman

Bio:

Dr. Frank Ackerman is a senior economist at the Stockholm Environment Institute's US Center, located at Tufts University in Boston. He has written widely on the economics of climate change, energy, and the environment, and on the limitations of cost-benefit analysis and the need for precautionary policies. His most recent book is "Can We Afford the Future? The Economics of a Warming World" (Zed Books, London). He received a PhD in economics from Harvard University, and has taught economics at Tufts University and at the University of Massachusetts. His current research includes the creation of a new model of the economics of climate and development.

Speaker: Dr. Sivan Kartha

Bio:

Dr. Sivan Kartha is director of Stockholm Environment Institute 's climate and energy programme. Sivan's research focuses on policy analysis relating to climate change, assessments of renewable energy technologies, and sustainable development strategies. As Coordinator of the Stockholm Environment Institute's Climate Program, his climate change research includes technical and methodological aspects of international agreements, as well as questions regarding equitable sharing of responsibility for addressing the climate challenge. He has also been involved in capacity building activities in countries in Asia, Latin America, and Asia. Further research focuses on the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of biomass energy technologies and supply in developing countries. His work has been supported by international organizations, governments agencies, and environmental non-governmental organizations. Sivan received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Cornell University in 1993.
