  简介:

Abstract:
Fusion-based metal additive manufacturing (MAM) is an innovative manufacturing technique which builds parts incrementally layer by layer through powder/wire fusion. Thus, fusion-based MAM has inherent advantages in part complexity, time and waste saving. However, due to its complex thermal cycle and rapid solidification during processing, the alloys well suited and commercially used for MAM today are limited in types. Therefore, it is important to understand the alloying strategy and current progress with materials performance to consider the alloy development for MAM. This presentation will briefly review the new opportunities of MAM on microstructure manipulation of existing engineering alloys, in particular Ti alloys and on the development of compositionally graded components. In addition, some key challenges of MAM are summarized and the promising solutions are suggested.

Biography:
Dr Qiu was awarded a PhD degree majored in materials science and engineering in 2005 from Prof. Wenzheng Zhang’s group, Tsinghua University. He had been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, and then Australian Research Fellow at the University of Queensland from 2005 to 2014. Dr Qiu joined RMIT University in 2015 as a Vice Chancellor’s Senior Research Fellow. In the last 10 years, his research has spanned a range of areas, such as grain refinement of cast alloys, crystallography in solid-solid phase transformations and surface modification of biomedical implants. His contribution to the research community is witnessed by 69 peer-reviewed journal papers, with 16 out of those published in Acta Materialia, the leading journal in the field of physical metallurgy worldwide. His publications have been cited by more than 1100 times and his H-index is 21 in Scopus. He has also succeeded in obtaining 11 competitive grants in the last ten years, including 4 under ARC Discovery scheme at a national level. His current research interest includes microstructure manipulation of additively manufactured (AM) metal components and new alloy development through AM.
