  简介:

WebELS is an on-line e-Learning platform focusing on authoring and dissemination of contents, aiming to assist traditional instructors to archive their learning materials on the web for on-line and on-demand learning. WebELS features web-based authoring tools, portability on various platforms, and flexibility of XML-based storage allowing the learning materials to be delivered in many different ways. This speech will survey the development of e-Learning for engineering education and introduce the background and concepts of WebELS in detail.

报告人介绍:
Haruki Ueno is a Professor Emeritus of National Institute of Informatics of Japan. He received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tokyo Denki University of Japan in 1971. In 1977, He was an Associate Professor, Tokyo Denki University. In 1981, he was a Professor of Tokyo Denki University. In 1998, he was a Professor of National Center for Science Information System. In 2000, he was a Professor of National Institute of Informatics. In 2001, he was a Professor of the University of Tokyo. In 2002, he was a Professor of the Graduate University for Advanced Studies. In 2004, he was the Chair of Informatics Department of the Graduate University for Advanced Studies. In 2006, he is a Professor Emeritus, National Institute of Informatics of Japan.
He is a member of the Engineering Academy of Japan (E&P Taskforce, chair; Public Relations Committee, member; International Affairs Committee, member). He is a member of New York Academy of Science. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE). He is a Fellow of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) (a founder, Chair of General-Affairs Committee, Chair of Planning Committee, member of Board, Chair of SIG Committee, Vice-Chair of International Conference Organization, member of Publication Committee, etc.). He has received the Distinguished Contribution Award from Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence(JSAI).
His current researches focus on knowledge-base system, symbiotic robotics and distance learning.
