  简介:
Geospatial technologies are revolutionizing scientific research and application by allowing integrated holistic approaches to the analysis of places.  However, the increasing mobility and connectivity of many people in the world means that inferring social characteristics from places can be a problem.  In this lecture, I will review the basic and cutting-edge functionalities of place-based geo-spatial technologies including geographic information systems (GIS).  I will then discuss the need to move beyond a place-based perspective to include a people-based perspective, i.e., the individual in place and time.  I will review the theories and technologies that can support the people-based perspective and provide some example applications of this perspective.
