In this talk we introduce a new 3D IB method that adopts a classic approach (shell as an assembly of plate elements) to model a thin-walled structure and a special finite element method (the co-rotational scheme) to solve numerically the partial differential equations governing the motion of the thin-walled structure.  The Navier-Stokes equations are solved for numerically by the lattice Boltzmann method. The coupling of the fluid and thin-walled structure is through the penalty approach. As an application, the new IB method is applied to simulation of a 3D viscous flow past a deformable circular thin plate.  Our numerical results are in very good agreement with the laboratory experiments. This is the joint work with Drs. RN Hua and XY LU at USTC.
报告人简介:
Dr. Luoding Zhu got his PhD in applied math in 2001 from Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University working with Charles S Peskin. He did a postdoc at University of California Santa Barbara with Linda Petzold at Computer Science 2001-2004. He Joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2004 as an Assistant Professor and currently works at the same institution as an Associate Professor. His main research interest includes applied numerical methods for Fluid-Structure-Interaction, mathematical modeling and computer simulation of blood flows and cell-fluid-extracellular-matrix interaction.
