  简介:

Recent spatially-resolved studies have suggested that some of the correlations among global quantities (e.g., star formation rate, stellar mass, gas mass) might be an ensemble effect of local processes. In this talk, I will introduce the ALMA-MaNGA QUEnching and STar formation (ALMaQUEST) survey, which provides a promising dataset to explore the relationships between stellar and gas components at kpc scales in a consistent way. Using ALMaQUEST, we show that each pair of the three variables among surface densities of star formation rate (Sigma_SFR), stellar mass (Sigma_M*), and gas mass (Sigma_MH2) form a tight relation for star-forming spaxels in star-forming main sequence galaxies, i.e., the resolved star-forming main sequence (rSFMS: Sigma_SFR vs. Sigma_M*), resolved Schmidt-Kennicutt relation (rSK: Sigma_SFR vs. Sigma_MH2), and resolved molecular gas main sequence (rMGMS: Sigma_MH2 vs. Simga_M*). The rSFMS has a larger scatter and could be a natural consequence of the other two relations. I will then discuss the physical drivers responsible for the variations in those scaling relations. And finally, I will also show how the scaling relations of green valley galaxies are compared to those of the main sequence and its implications in the quenching processes.

Dr. Lihwai Lin got her Ph.D. from National Taiwan University in 2006. She served as a postdoctoral fellow at UC Santa Cruz and then at ASIAA. She started the faculty position at ASIAA in 2009. Her main research interests cover a wide range of topics in galaxy evolution, including galaxy mergers, environmental effects, quenching, and gas observations. She joined several large sky survey projects, such as DEEP2, PanSTRRAS, SDSS-IV/MaNGA, and HSC surveys. Recently, she has initiated the ALMaQUEST survey, combining the ALMA and MaNGA observations to understand the role of cold gas in galaxy evolution.
