The holographic entanglement entropy (or RT) formula, is a pillar of  our modern understanding of holography. Yet there are many aspects of  this formula, especially in its covariant (or HRT) version, that  remain mysterious. In an attempt to provide new perspectives on these  mysteries, we will show that the formula can be rewritten in several  new ways, and explore some of their consequences and applications.
