  简介:

Advances of Multidisciplinary and Multiphysics Simulations

Qun Zhang, Ph.D.

ANSYS Inc.

Coupling theory and methodology

The background, theory, and coupling methods for simulating general multidisciplinary and multiphysics problems will be discussed with a special focus on fluid-structure interaction analysis. The following topics will be covered:

  • Identification and Characteristics of Coupled Problems
  • Challenges in Coupled Physics Simulation
  • Major Characteristics and Methodologies for Week and Strong Coupling Methods
  • Advantages, Disadvantages and Limitations for Both Methods
  • Mesh Control Algorithm for Non-structural Fields (e.g. CFD in FSI problems).
  • The Current Status and Trends about Academic Research and Commercial Software Development in Multidisciplinary Simulation.

Capability of ANSYS Mutiphysics Simulation Products

The background and history of ANSYS Multiphysics simulation products will be discussed. File based unidirectional coupling, ANSYS Multifield single code coupling (MFS), and ANSYS/CFX bidirectional coupling (MFX) will be introduced. The following key technologies used by the MFX solver will be addressed:

  • Mapping and Interpolation Technologies
  • The Coupling Time Step Control
  • Nonlinear Coupling Iteration Algorithm and Convergence Controls
  • Boundary Loads Relaxation and Convergence Acceleration Methods
  • Morphing Technologies for CFD Field.

The code infrastructure and communication technology will also be presented here.

Engineering Applications of Multiphysics Simulation

Applications of coupled physics modeling and simulation for a wide-range of industries will be presented in Bioengineering (e.g., FSI simulation of blood vessel, artificial heart, etc), MEMS devices (fully coupled simulation of Inkjet printer head, Micro-pump, MEMS Switch), heavy industry and machinery (transient multiphysics simulation of turbine rotor/stator, tank sloshing), and in Aerospace Engineering (e.g. air dynamics simulation of AGARD wing flutter).

Qun Zhang, Ph.D.

Sr. Development Engineer

Multiphysics Simulation Group

ANSYS Inc.

Dr. Qun Zhang has more than 10 years research and software development experience in multidisciplinary and multiphysics analysis. Dr. Zhang earned his Ph.D. from Mechno-infomatics Department of the University of Tokyo in 1999; the strong coupling method developed by him has been successfully used in the fluid-structure interaction simulation of artificial heart, real heart, etc., and has been widely cited by researchers across the world. Dr. Zhang joined ANSYS Inc (the USA) in 2001, in the past six years, as a key developer of ANSYS Mutiphysics products, Dr. Zhang has developed ANSYS Multifield Solver (MFS) and bidirectional ANSYS/CFX code coupling product (MFX). Dr. Zhang has many journal and conference publications in Multiphysics simulation filed (e.g. publications at International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering,  at Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, etc.). Dr. Zhang had also been invited as a keynote speaker at national and international conferences (e.g. 8th National Congress on Computational Mechanics, USA, 2005), gave Multiphysics Simulation Lectures/ Seminars in USA (e.g., Pre-Conference Seminar at AIAA conference, 2007), China (Tsinghua University, 2005, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 2006, etc.), and Japan (e.g., MHI, IHI, Toshiba, Hitachi, and ANSYS K.K., 2007). Dr. Zhang is well experienced in the modeling and numerical simulations of the multidisciplinary problems in Bioengineering, MEMS devices, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, and Machinery.
