We report on the latest developments in the synthesis and properties of the new generation of so called Aqueous Miscible Organic Layered Double Hydroxides “AMO-LDHs”.[1] In some cases AMO solvent treatment of LDHs can lead to stable hydrocarbon dispersions of nanosheets or even exfoliation to single layers. New distinguishing features of AMO-LDHs have been discovered by varying the composition of LDHs, the pH of the synthesis process and by varying the AMO solvent dispersion procedure. The technique can tune the surface of LDHs to be hydrophobic, enabling them to be readily dispersible in nonpolar solvents. We will also report on our recent developments in the synthesis, physical properties and catalytic applications of core@AMO-LDH materials involving silica, zeolite and other inorganic core materials.
