ABSTRACT:
This presentation summarize some recent research work at Smart Materials & Structures Laboratory in Sydney on development of a Lamb wave-based damage identification technique using active piezoelectric sensor network in structures. Both direct and inverse analyses were applied in the approach; the former is based on the triangulation using time-of-flight (ToF) of lamb modes extracted from the sensor network, while the latter is based on data fusion using artificial neural network (ANN) with a concept of “Digital Damage Fingerprints” (DDFs). As case studies, the approach was validated by locating cracks in aluminum plates and holes/delaminations in composite structures.
Brief Biography:
Graduated with PhD from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1987. Awarded the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) fellowship for advanced composite research at IVW of University of Kaiserslautern in 1990-1992. Joined University of Sydney as a Lecturer in 1992 and promoted to Senior Lecturer and Reader in 1995 and 1998, and a full Professor in 2002. Received AvH Bessel Award in 2004 and elected a Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences of Engineering (ATSE) in 2005. His major research interests are in the general areas of composites science and technology, smart materials and structures, nano-materials and nano-composites, structural integrity and durability. |
