In this presentation Prof Beecham will discuss recent developments in Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) in Australia and compare these with overseas trends in Sustainable Drainage Systems (UK) and Low Impact Development (USA). He will also present his rather controversial views on the use of multifunctional land spaces to develop sustainable cities with higher population densities.

biography

Simon Beecham is Professor of Sustainable Water Resources at the University of South Australia. He is also Group Head, Civil Engineering and Director of the SA Water Centre for Water Science & Systems.Over the past 16 years Prof Beecham has been successful in winning Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery, Linkage, LIEF and RIEF grants.  Since 1998 he has been Engineers Australia’s Representative on the International Group On Urban Rainfall.
