内容提要: There is hardly a research topic in history that could stir up so much enthusiasm in the scientific community and, at the same time, lots of aversion on the other hand, as did invisibility cloaking. Whether it is a real revolution towards the long-cherished dream, or merely a blue-sky physics hype that cannot last for long, still lacks a clear picture to draw the conclusion, not to mention how to guide the road ahead. In this talk, I will review the existing knowledge of invisibility cloaking based on transformation optics from an integrated science and engineering perspective. Several significant electromagnetic problems that have resulted in intense discussions in the past few years will be clarified in terms of propagation, scattering, radiation and fabrication. I will also introduce our recent progress in achieving invisibility cloaking. Finally, the road ahead toward invisibility cloaking and transformation optics will be discussed from my viewpoint.
