  简介:
Abstract:
Organic electronic devices such as thin-film transistors (TFTs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs), as well as the development of high-performance materials, have attracted considerable research interest. Recent trend in the research on organic devices is focused on the fabrication of the practical ones based on easy and low-cost process. However, understanding of the operation mechanism in the OFET is still insufficient. The importance of fundamental research is being recognized to improve the performance of organic devices. Since current flowing in the materials is expressed as J=enmE, evaluation of each parameters, i.e., carrier density (en), mobility (m) and electric field (E), is of great importance to discuss the device operation from a fundamental point of view. However, these contributions cannot be discriminated easily by the simple electrical measurements.
On the basis of electric field induced optical second harmonic generation (EFISHG), we have developed a procedure for evaluating electric field distribution in the organic devices [1,2] and a time-resolved measurement (TRM-SHG) for visualizing a carrier motion in organic thin film transistors [3]. Since carrier is the source of the electric field, carrier motion can be traced by following the time-evolution of the electric field distribution in the devices. Direct observation of carrier enables us to evaluate intrinsic carrier mobility in the devices. Thus, the TRM-SHG measurement is a powerful tool to evaluate the carrier dynamics in the OFET [4,5].Recently, we successfully visualize an anisotropic carrier transport in single crystalline grains of TIPS (6,13-Bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)) pentacene FETs by using thisTRM-SHG measurement. In the presentation, I would like to briefly introduce and discuss details of this TRM-SHG measurement, and show some recent results regarding such anisotropic carrier transport in the organic semiconductor materials.
