题目1:Model-based Integration of Diagnosis and Fault Analysis during the Entire Life Cycle
Tasks of diagnosis and fault analysis occur during the entire life cycle of a product. Due to increasing complexity of systems their solution becomes more challenging and crucial. We out-line the ideas underlying the model-based solution and demonstrate its applicability using case studies in the
automotive and aeronautics industry. In particular, we present a demonstrator for automated generation of on-board diagnostics for the comfort system of a VW Polo with four control units connected via a CAN-Bus. We further show how the model basis is used to perform diagnosability analysis and sensor placement and the generation of decision trees. Another application addresses the model-based
generation of tests, both for physical subsystems and control unit software for vehicles. Finally, the model-based generation of FMECA reports is demonstrated using an application to aeronautics systems.

题目2:Model-Based Problem Solvers and Their Theoretical Foundations
Model-based diagnosis (MBD) systems developed in Artificial Intelligence solve their tasks by searching for system models that agree with the observations of the system’s behavior. MBD, or more precisely consistency-based diagnosis, is based on a logical formalization to define and identify the solutions. Such systems contain an explicit, conceptual representation of the system to be diagnosed. These models are compositional and often expressed at a qualitative, rather than numerical, level. This is one of the rare examples of AI technology that spans the bridge from a rigorous theory all the way to applications to industrial problems, but also to environmental decision support systems. This talk presents the major theoretical foundations of this approach and discusses challenges to future research.

报告人简介:
Prof. Peter Struss obtained a diploma in Mathematics from the University of Goettingen, before he moved into Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. From 1978 to 1992, he worked in the Corporate R&D division of Siemens Corp., where he was in charge of the knowledge-based systems group. Although the work always aimed at solutions that were relevant to industrial applications, he and his group produced a number of important research contributions, particularly in the fields of Qualitative Modeling and Model-based Diagnosis. Among these are fundamental papers on mathematical foundations of Qualitative Reasoning (which was also the topic of his PhD thesis under the supervision of Joerg Siekmann in
Kaiserlautern in 1990) and on model-based diagnosis based on fault models (the subject of his habilitation work at the Technical University of Munich in 1992). He stayed as a guest researcher at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center several times and also at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley.

In 1992, he joined the Technical University of Munich as a Professor of Computer Science. Now in academia, he still maintained a strong link to industrial applications, particularly in the automotive industries.

He was a co-editor of ``Recent Advances in Qualitative Physics'', edited books on ``Expert Systems for Technical Applications'', on ``Knowledge Representation'' and on ``Intelligent Diagnosis in Industrial Applications'', and recently was a guest editor of the AI Magazine on Qualitative Reasoning. He was a member of the first editorial board of JAIR and served on numerous program committees in his special area (particularly the annual international workshops on Qualitative Reasoning and Principles of Diagnosis) and general AI conferences and workshops. He was the area chair on ``Reasoning about Physical Systems'' for ECAI-94, and a co-chair of QP90 and of the Intelligent Systems in Engineering
Conference ISE-94. Among the invited talks he presented are the ones at ECAI 1992, FLAIRS 1996, and the Australian AI Conference AI'01. In the German Computer Association (GI), he acts as the speaker of the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Group. He is a fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence, and he promoted organization of work in Model-based Systems as a member of the executive board of the MONET network of excellence.
