For years, the academic literature has addressed the issues of routing in stochastic networks; however, essentially none of these contributions have found their way into the marketplace. The seminar will review the practical challenges presented by variation and uncertainty in roadway attributes and approaches to the development of the next generation of satellite route guidance devices that begin to address the stochasticity inherent in the optimal routing problem.
