报告摘要:

In mobile packet data and voice networks, a special coding scheme, known as the incremental redundancy hybrid ARQ (IR HARQ), achieves high throughput efficiency by adapting its error correcting code redundancy to fluctuating channel conditions that are characteristic for this application. This talk will describe two such schemes, and compare their performance. One scheme is based on punctured LDPC codes, the other is based on recently introduced rateless Fountain (Raptor) codes. A number of important issues, such as rate and power control, and error rate performance after each transmission on time varying binary-input, symmetric-output channels are addressed by analyzing performance of LDPC and Raptor codes on parallel channels. The theoretical results obtained for random code ensembles are tested on several practical code examples by simulation. Both theoretical and simulation results show that both LDPC and Raptor codes are suitable for HARQ schemes. Which codes would make a better choice depends mainly on the width of the signal-to-noise operating range of the HARQ scheme, prior knowledge of that range, and other design parameters and constraints dictated by standards.

报告人简介:

Emina Soljanin received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sarajevo university,Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1986, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from TexasA&M University, College Station, in 1989 and 1994.

From 1986 to 1988, she worked in the Energoinvest Company, Bosnia and Herzegovina, developing optimization algorithms and software for power system control. After graduating from Texas A&M, she joined Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ, where she now serves as a Distinguished Member Staff in the Mathematical Sciences Research Center. Her research interests are in the broad area of communications, information and coding theory as well as their applications in storage and wireless systems, and, more recently, quantum computation and statistics.

Dr. Soljanin was the recipient of the 1992 Texas A&M University Electrical Engineering Department Fouraker fellowship. She served s a Technical Proof-Reader, 1990-1992, and as the Associate Editor for Coding Techniques, 1997-2000, for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. She was a co-chair for DIMACS Special Focus on Computational Information Theory and Coding 2001-2005.
