Min-Hui Li received her BS and MS in 1986 and 1989 from the Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), and her PhD in 1993 from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, working with J.-P. Cotton in the Laboratoire Leon Brillouin at the CEA. She obtained a CNRS research position in 1994 at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal (Bordeaux), and moved to the Institut Curie (Paris) in 1997. Her research interests focus on the design of stimuli-responsive and biomimetic polymer materials such as polymer vesicles, polymer nanofibers and liquid crystal polymers and elastomers. Abstract: The talk consists of two parts. The first part will be focused on photo-responsive polymer vesicles (polymersomes). Their bursting and wrinkling can be induced by UV light illumination. Three systems of photo-responsive polymersomes have been developed using different molecular design. In the second part, he unique self assembly structures of amphiphilic LC block copolymers will be described. Thermotropic LC phases exhibit in the lyotropic structures. Smectic nanofibers, nanotubes and vesicles are formed with smectic polymers. A “liquid crystallization”-driven self-assembly process is proposed for the formation of nanotubes and nanofibers.
