Dr. Fatih Birol will visit Beijing as his first official mission since taking up duties on 1 September 2015 as the new Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). He will use the occasion to deliver a lecture to the faculty and students of Tsinghua University, during which he will explain his own life story, from being a young student in Turkey to becoming the Head of the world’s most influential energy authority, explain the current status of global energy markets and the need for action in order to enhance energy security and respond to energy-related environmental concerns. He will also discuss the mutual benefits that could be achieved through a strengthening of ties between the IEA and China, including through enhanced cooperation on energy security, energy efficiency and energy technology. Dr. Birol’s visit to China so soon after taking office represents a break with tradition. All previous Executive Directors of the IEA made their first official visits to member capitals. His choice of Beijing was made in recognition that China is now the most important player in the global energy market and has been made an impressive set of achievements in overcoming energy challenges. The IEA, which was founded in 1974, works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for its 29 member countries and beyond.
 
 
主讲人简介:
   法提赫·比罗尔博士2015年9月1日出任国际能源署(IEA)署长。他此前是IEA首席经济学家,并负责IEA年度旗舰出版物《世界能源展望》的研究与出版工作。他也是IEA商业理事会的创始人及现任主席,该理事会是政府与工业界高层决策者之间的沟通桥梁。
   比罗尔博士1958年出生于土耳其,在英国帝国理工学院获得能源经济学专业博士学位。他曾工作于石油输出国组织(OPEC)秘书处和联合国秘书长全球可持续能源高级别委员会,被《福布斯》杂志评为全球能源领域最具影响力的人物之一。
