摘要: Self-assembly is widely recognized as one of the most promising ways to produce nanometer scale functional systems. An interesting class of such systems are tubular aggregates of organic molecules with diameters in the order of a few nm and length up to microns. In nature such quasi-one-dimensional systems occur as photosynthetic antenna complexes; during the past decade similar systems have been prepared synthetically. In this talk I will address the intriguing optical properties of such tubes, caused by the collective neutral excitations (Frenkel excitons) that live on them. I will address the optical selection rules of the excitons, their (polarized) absorption and fluorescence spectra, their localization and their ability to transport energy over the tube. Ample comparison will be made between theory and experiment. It will also be shown that combining optical experiments with model calculations allows one to pinpoint the molecular organization in the tube. |
