Professor Jacobus gained her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Oxford (BA 1965, PhD 1970) and previously taught at the Universities of Cornell and Oxford. She has written on Romanticism,, feminism, and psychoanalysis. Her books include The Poetics of Psychoanalysis: In the Wake of Klein (2005); Psychoanalysis and the Scene of Reading (1999); First Things: The Maternal Imaginary in Literature, Art, and Psychoanalysis (1996); Romanticism, Writing, and Sexual Difference: Essays on The Prelude (1989); Reading Woman: Essays in Feminist Criticism (1986); and Tradition and Experiment in Wordsworth's Lyrical Ballads, 1798 (1976). She has edited Body/Politics: Women and the Discourses of Science, with Evelyn Fox Keller, and Sally Shuttleworth (1989) and Women Writing and Writing About Women (1979).
