  简介:
This is an introductory course on the methods of partial differential equations. In particular, the characteristic method, energy method, entropy method, and weak convergence method will be introduced. These methods are fundamental and very useful in the research of the elliptic and parabolic equations, wave equation, Euler and Navier-Stokes equations in fluid mechanics, and the Boltzmann equation of kinetic theory, as well as in related applications. The course is self-contained and is designed for the advanced undergraduate students and beginning graduate students. 
授课人简介:  Professor Dehua Wang is Professor of Department of Mathematics, University of Pittsburgh. He graduated with B. S. degree from the Department of Applied Mathematics, Tsinghua University, in 1988. He received the Ph. D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1996. He taught in Northwestern University and University of California-Santa Barbara during 1996-1999. Since 1999, he has been teaching in the University of Pittsburgh. His research interests are partial differential equations and applied mathematics, including nonlinear problems in fluid dynamics, conservation laws and shock waves, magneto-hydro-dynamics, geometry, kinetic theory, viscoelasticity and liquid crystals, and biology.
