Abstract

Part 1. The following projects will be considered:

•     The Okhta Centre is a construction project of a business centre in Saint Petersburg. The main tower of the Okhta Centre is going to be the tallest building in Europe amongst building proposals (total height 396m).

•     The sculpture «Worker and Kolkhoz Woman» (Moscow) was originally created for the Soviet pavilion at Paris World Expo 1937 and has been recently restored.

•     The Big Obukhovsky Bridge is the newest bridge across the Neva River in Saint Petersburg. It is also the only bridge across the Neva which is not a drawbridge.

•     «Snej.com» is the first in Russia and the largest in Europe all-the-year-round mountain-skiing complex.

 

Part 2. The following projects will be considered:

•     Moscow International Business Center or Moscow city is a commercial district of central Moscow. This area is currently under development. Approximately 250,000 - 300,000 people will be working, living, or visiting the complex at the same time.

•     The Federation Tower is a skyscraper currently under construction as a part of the Moscow International Business Center. When completed it will be the tallest building in Europe.

•     The 2014 Winter Olympics Games will be held from February 7 to February 23, 2014 in Sochi. This will be the first time the Russian Federation will host the Winter Olympics.

 

 

Biography

Dr Boris Rakitin graduated from the faculty of Civil Engineering of South Ural State University (Russia) with distinction in 2007. During his PhD course he studied at the Saint Petersburg Transport University and University of Malta as well. In July, 2010 he was awarded the PhD degree. In 2007 he became the prize-winner of the project «Professional Team of the Country» and in 2008 he was awarded a gold medal «For the Best Research Work» among the university PhD students in Russia and the CIS countries.
