Abstract:
Present Modern Society is based on ubiquitous information environment, which can be considered as consisting of two computing aspects: Mobile Computing and Pervasive Computing. In this talk, we will introduce advance ubiquitous computing where human and information systems will co-exist in a cooperative manner to the betterment of life and society, and to alleviate the predefined problems. Then, we will propose a new 3rd axis, comprised of human and society in addition to the existing ubiquitous computing. By integrating these three axis, we created the Symbiotic Computing paradigm. From there, a Symbiotic Information System can be realized. In order to research and develop the Symbiotic Information System, especially, we would like to discuss the following three research topics: 1) Network Management, 2) Green-oriented Network and Its Application, 3) Green Koban: Green-oriented Network for Saving Power Consumption of Information Systems. Symbiotic Computing combined with Green-oriented environment will take us to the world we are wishing for, where elderly people to live comfortable life without feeling anxious and insecure.
Biography:
Norio Shiratori, born in 1946, is currently an Emeritus Professor and Visiting Professor at the RIEC (Research Institute of Electrical Communication), Tohoku University, Japan. He is also a member of the executive board of Future University - Hakodate and a Visiting Professor of Chuo University, Japan. He is a fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), the IPSJ (Information Processing Society of Japan) and the IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers). He was the president of the IPSJ (2009-2011) and the Chair of the IEEE Sendai Section (2010-2011). Before moving to the RIEC in 1993, he was the Professor of Information Engineering at Tohoku University from 1990 to 1993. Prior to that, he served as an Associate Professor and Research Associate at the RIEC, Tohoku University, after receiving his Doctoral degree from Tohoku University in 1977. He also served as the IFIP representative of Japan.
Professor Shiratori has also contributed through serving as various capacities, such as 1) General Chair of the 9th IEEE ICOIN-9(1994), the IFIP Joint International conference FORTE/PSTV'97, and 12th IEEE ICOIN-12 (1997), and 2) Program Chair of ICPADS'96 (1996) and ICPP-99 (1999). He has been one of the leaders in the governmental projects such as JGN (Japan Gigabit Network). Specifically, he headed several governmental projects such as “Idea Generation Support System Project”(1996-1998) funded by the MITI (Ministry MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications), “SCOPE”(2003-2005) and “SCOPE”(2007-2010) funded by the MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications), “Dynamic Networking” (1999-2004) funded by the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) and the “‘Kurihara Green Project” (250 million yen, 2010-2011) funded by the MIC. He is currently leading the “Green-oriented Network Management System” (150 million yen: 2011-2013) funded by the MIC. Based on the above projects, his research group had proposed ideas on Mobile IPv6 and they were approved and standardized by the IETF in 2006 and 2009 as follows: 1) RFC 4295 Mobile IPv6 Management Information Base (Apr., 2006) and 2) RFC 5488 Network Mobility (NEMO) Management Information Base (Apr., 2009).
He has proposed a new concept of Flexible Computing and Symbiotic Computing, and still working in this direction. His recent research interests include Disaster resistant Green-oriented Network, Symbiotic Computing, and Ubiquitous Computing. He has published more than 15 books and over 400 refereed papers in computer science and related fields. He has received the “IPSJ Memorial Prize Winning Paper Award” in 1985, the “Telecommunication Advancement Foundation Incorporation Award” in 1991, the “Best Paper Award of ICOIN-9” in 1994, the “IPSJ Best Paper Award” in 1997, “IEICE Achievement Award” in 2001, “Outstanding Paper Award of UIC-07” in 2007, “IPSJ Contribution Award” in 2008, “IEICE Contribution Award” in 2011, “Science and Technology Award (Research Division)” by MEXT(Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-Japan) in 2009 and many others. |
