    Ioannis Giomataris教授是世界知名的气体探测器的专家，发明了包括Micromegas在内的多种新型气体探测器。这些探测器在高能物理学领域取得了广泛的应用和实验突破。他将讲授20小时的课程，关于气体探测器及其在物理学中的应用，涉及探测器的历史、今天和未来。课程将围绕探测器中的物理过程展开，面向感兴趣的研究生及高年级本科生。首次课程安排为6小时，分3次进行，其余部分将在明年初他再次访华时完成。

Ioannis Giomataris is at the origin of many contributions to the instrumentation used in experiments of high energy physics. He also initiated several proposals for the detection of low energy neutrino, dark matter or other elusive particles. He greatly contributed to the development of Cherenkov counters and in particular the RICH counter. With G. Charpak he invented and built new Cherenkov devices: The Hadron Blind Detector, A Wide Angle Gamma Telescope and with L. Lederman The Trigger For Beauty. Leading a group in Saclay he has developed the new detector Micromegas used in many experiments in particle and nuclear physics: COMPASS, NA48, n-TOF, CAST, TPC-ILC, T2K, CLASS12, ATLAS SLHC, etc. The detector is also used in industrial applications and especially in the bio-medical field. Recently he has invented a new detector, the Spherical Proportional Counter, which is under development and aims to solve basic problems in low energy neutrino physics and dark matter search. He has done a lot of effort to optimize his various detectors in the domain of rare event search.
