The research is part of his PhD, which deals with recycling flows of critical materials from thin-film photovoltaics (TF-PV).China is already the biggest producer for crystalline silicon solar cells in the world, but also has the potential to establish a TF-PV industry, not just because of low material, energy and labour costs but also because of the availability of the required semiconductors. As scarce materials like indium or tellurium or toxic materials like cadmium are used in TV-PV,appropriate recycling of production and end-of-life waste is necessary.Therefore the presentation will show current market activities of the TF-PV industry in China, possible effects of the Chinese RoHS and WEEE on this sector, necessary recycling technologies and Chinas role in the supply of critical raw materials.
