Abstract
 
In past decade, fabricating nanomaterialshas attracted great attention in both scientific and technical aspects as a core research field of nanotechnology,because of the novel or enhanced physical and chemical propertiesdifferent from those in bulk state and the promising potentiality for a variety ofapplications. Here, various tailored processes will be introducedtofabricate versatile metallicand oxide nanostructuresin form of nanotubes (TiO2-base, Pd, Pt), nanowires(Ni, Fe-Pt, Fe-Co, Fe-Ni), nanorods (TiO2, TiO2-Ru), nanoporousfilms (TiO2, TiO2-RuO2,Pd), and nano-thin films(Ag3Sn/Sn) on glass, Al and Cu alloys by combining Al anodizing and various nano-coating technologies.Moreover, as examples for practical uses, investigations on the characteristics of the nanomaterials towardhigh-performance photocatalyst, perpendicular magnetic recording media, catalytic electrode materials of hydrogen production, and highly reliable automotive connectors will be also addressed.

Song-Zhu CHU (Japanese name: Shochiku KURE) is a full associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering of Iwate University in Morioka, Japan. She earned her B. E.degree in Qiqihaer Light Industrial University (1982, China), M. E.degree in Northeastern University (1988, China), and Ph. D degree in Hokkaido University (2000, Japan). Her research interestcovers a variety of functional surface engineeringfields of materials such as anodizing, electro-plating, electroless plating, sol-gel coating, conversion, and laser irradiation for anti-corrosion, anti-abrasion, decoration, and MEMS. Recently, her research focuses on the fabrication of versatile functional nanomaterialstoexplore and develop novel properties and new products for practical applications in environmentpurification and green energy utilization.Shewas awarded as excellent academic photograph in Ceramics Societyof Japan in 2003 and excellent academic paper in Copper Societyof Japan in 2009. She is the coauthor of more than 50 journal articles and the regular reviewer of 19 English journals, and holds 12Japan patents (7 issued) on fabrication of functional nanomaterials.
