Abstract
This year marks 21st anniversary of the birth of (Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3-BaTiO3 (BNT-BT) lead-free piezoceramic material, which has been extensively studied and considered as one of the most promising lead-free systems so far. Among all the achievements in this system is the discovery of the so-called incipient piezoelectricity where an exceptionally large electric-field-induced strain is realizable. Over the last half a decade, we have devoted to better understanding the underlying mechanism based on which the incipient piezoceramics can find their way to practical applications. In this seminar, we would like to present the historical overview over the topic with the state of the arts, casting prospects towards the future direction.
