主讲人简介:In 2005, Dr. Marcellette G. Williams came out of retirement to return to the University of Massachusetts as Senior Vice President for the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and International Relations (AASAIR), for the five-campus system. Prior to her return to UMass, Senior Vice President Williams had served as Chancellor (Interim) for UMass Amherst, Deputy Chancellor, and held a Tenured Professorship of English and Comparative Literature. Her current responsibilities include the oversight of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and International Relations (AASAIR) initiatives for UMass. Since her return to the University in 2005, Dr. Williams has been party to the awarding of an Honorary Degree for Nelson Mandela, she has facilitated AASAIR’s involvement in research projects focused on global health in Liberia and South Africa, she created the University of Massachusetts China Institute – a system wide institute created to implement the University’s China Strategy, she has advised upon and supported University projects in Haiti, and she is the UMass representative for multiple national and international initiatives that support excellence in higher education and research. Dr. Williams is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate, earning a B.A. with Highest Honor in Comparative Literature, an M.A. in English and Comparative Literature, and a Ph.D. in English from Michigan State University.  Her current research focuses on the language of leadership--its metaphors and other dimensions of rhetoric and its capacity to persuade, motivate, renew and heal, and on leadership and institutional reform.
