  简介:
Abstract:
Escalating system-on-chip design complexity is pushing the design community to raise the level of abstraction beyond RTL. High-level synthesis (HLS), which promises automatic generation of efficient hardware from high-level functional specifications, is playing an enabler role in this important transition.

The central problem of HLS is scheduling, as it introduces the concept of clock into the untimed model and largely determines the quality of the synthesized hardware. In this talk, I shall present efficient mathematical programming formulations to the schedule problem which are versatile and efficient in handling various types of design constraints and objectives for performance/power optimizations. I shall also show a few industrial designs as case studies, and compare the results from latest HLS technologies with optimized manual solutions.

Zhiru Zhang is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. He received his B.S. degree from Peking University, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from UCLA, all in Computer Science.

Zhiru co-founded AutoESL Design Technologies, Inc. in 2006 based on part of his dissertation research on high-level synthesis. AutoESL was acquired by Xilinx in 2011. Prior to joining Cornell, he served as a software development manager at Xilinx, where he received the 2012 Ross Freeman Award for Technical Innovation.
Zhiru is also a co-recipient of the 2012 ACM TODAES best paper award.
