If we think about combustion process in the most general sense, than we can treat it as a process of matter transformation from one state to another, which happens in a very localized region. There is a big variety of phenomena where we can meet fronts of different nature. In this talk I will describe two examples of fronts from our recent studies. First I will talk about organic semiconductors and we will see that fronts of electrochemical doping resemble flame front corrugated by Darrieus-Landau instability. Secondly I will describe magnetization reversal in crystals of molecular magnets; due to close similarity to combustion it has been called magnetic deflagration. Apart to slow subsonic regime I will also consider main features of magnetic detonation.

Mikhail Modestov graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (state University) in 2007. He did his postgraduate studies in Umeå University in Sweden under supervision of prof. Vitaly Bychkov and prof. Mattias Marklund. In 2012 he received his PhD degree and the same year he joined Nordita (Stockholm) as a post-doc fellow.
Mikhail is mostly interested in fronts behaviour and their stability properties. He has studied fronts of different nature such as flames, supernovae, laser ablation, quantum plasmas, fronts of doping in organic semiconductors and magnetic reversal avalanches in crystals of molecular magnets. At present he works in astrophysical group under prof. Axel Brandenburg. His current research is devoted to numerical investigation of magnetic field generation due to hydrodynamic instabilities. |
